Lee Roy Selmon has a tradition that blends family scholarship football with volunteer work in the community. First family he is the youngest of the nine children Lucious and Jessie Selmon. The family lived on the farm of Eufala, Oklahoma. The Selmons were also among the three brothers who played for Oklahoma in football. They were all All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey, Lee Roy, and Lucious Jr. Dewey started the 1973 season. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's best lineman. Over the course of his three years as an offensive lineman, Oklahoma finished 32-1-0 and won two national championships. He was awarded a third scholarship in 1975. He was also named as a National Football Foundation Student-Athlete. Selmon obtained his qualification in the field of education. Lee Roy spent ten hours a week on volunteer work throughout his time at college. He moved to Tampa following his college years, playing with the Buccaneers for nine years and played three times in the all-pro league. The beginning of his business career came. By 1988 he had become an Account Representative for Tampa's First Florida Bank and worked on the following groups: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute in the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It's no wonder the man was named among the 10 most notable young people in America by the Junior Chamber of Commerce in 1982. Lee Roy was 6'2" tall and weighed 265 lbs when was playing college football. In 1975, he commanded the team. In 1993, he joined the University of South Florida as an associate director of athletics. In 1988 the year he was a member of the College Football Hall of Fame. He also made an appearance in the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 awarded its Distinguished American Award to his parents, Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. The award ceremony was conducted by Henry Bellmon govenor of Oklahoma.
